Board of Elders

The Board of Elders assists the Pastor(s) in care of Parishioners, home and hospital visits, administration of the sacraments, and occasionally in delivery of sermons. A group of congregational members are assigned each Elder for spiritual care.

The Board of Elders will consist of six members. The six elders will consist of two elders elected each year for a term of three years. The newly elected members shall meet with the board in June and July to establish a budget and to organize for the fiscal year. They shall elect a chairman to represent them on the Church Council, a representative to the Finance Board and a secretary to keep minutes and records. The Pastor shall be an ex-officio member of the Elders Board.

The duties of the elders shall be:
  1. Assisting the Pastor in all matters pertaining to the spiritual welfare of the congregation;
  2. Making every effort to encourage members who have been negligent in their attendance of services, in the use of the sacraments, and the financial support of the church, to mend their sinful ways and fully enjoy the rights and privileges of their membership;
  3. Seeing to it that all services are conducted in such a manner as to avoid needless disturbance and to foster an attitude conducive to worship among those in attendance;
  4. Assisting the Pastor in arranging for pulpit assistance, special services, guest speakers, and to authorize the Pastor to accept or decline invitations as guest speaker, or render other services outside the parish;
  5. Appointing and supervising ushers and head ushers;
  6. Being an example of Christian conduct and conversation;
  7. Considering complaints and grievances of members of the congregation and determine if Matthew 18:15-16 has been fully observed, and report to the Voters' Assembly those which cannot be adjusted in accordance with Matthew 18:17-18;
  8. Concerning themselves with needs of the individuals in the congregation, especially the aged, the sick, and the poor;
  9. Encouraging all Boards and Committees to fulfill their responsibilities; and
  10. Making Plans complementary to the congregational plan established by the Church Council, establishing goals toward achieving the plan, and preparing detailed budget requirements.
